Booneville Middle School rewards students not only for good behavior, but also for showing good character through its Shout Out program. Through this program, teachers and staff are encouraged to fill out a “shout out” form when they see a student doing something that shows good character or when the student goes above and beyond what is typically expected of them. These “shout outs” are then read by the principal over the intercom each morning during announcements so that the student can be recognized publicly for their positive actions.
“It is great to see the students’ reactions to being recognized for a random act of kindness, polite behavior, or an act of integrity. It is an intentional focus by our staff to encourage the positive actions that our students demonstrate on a daily basis.” said principal of BMS, Brad Mixon.
The students love being given a “shout out” not only for the recognition, but also because they might be awarded a free lunch from a local restaurant. At the end of the month, the principal will randomly draw out a shout out form for at least two students from each grade (5th - 8th) from those that were recognized with a shout out that month. The day after the drawing, these chosen students receive a free lunch.
Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen of Booneville has recently begun sponsoring the Shout Out program for BMS by providing free lunches to the eight students chosen each month. This month's winners are Nakia Crockett, Chase Owens, Bryce Cooper, Cara Whatley, Izabella Orchard, Jase Riddle, Nykeria Welch, Antinesia Gardner, and Jordan Kimble.
