Getting Ready for State Tests PDF Print E-mail

It is that time of year again!  With Spring comes rain, flowers, green grass, and State Testing.  The District is proud of our academic history.  Year after year, our students and teachers continue to achieve high goals to make the Booneville School District one of the best school districts in the state.  This year is no exception.  Our teachers and students have been working hard all year to prepare for these tests.

Why are these tests so important?  The scores on these tests are the standard by which our school district is graded.  Each year, like the students, the Booneville School District Receives a report card just like the students. As a matter of fact, you can view our report card on the MAARS website.  Each year, our scores on tests, along with other criteria, are used to determine our Accreditation Level.  We are proud that we are continually given Level 5 accreditation, which is the highest a district can receive.  Each year, our students and teachers work to not only meet the the requirements for Level 5, but to do better than we did the year before!  This is why is very important for our students to be prepared for testing.  Here are some tips that you can do to prepare your student for testing:

REST:  Student need a good night's sleep before taking a test.  This does not mean they have to go to bed early, just follow their routine and get what is required for them be rested.

EAT:    A good breakfast in the morning before a test is important! Test taking requires a lot of energy.   Don't over do it.  If all your child needs is a bowl of cereal in the morning to keep them going, then that is great.

LISTEN:  Ask your child to listen carefully to directions the teacher gives and to follow them exactly.  If they do not understand something, there is nothing wrong with asking the teacher to repeat the instructions or explain the instructions.

DRESS:  Have your child dress in layers.  They will do better if they do not have to worry about being hot or cold.

TRY:  Do their best!!  They are not expected to know the answer to every question.  Some of the questions may seem difficult, but they should never give up.  Your confidence in them is contagious.

MAINTAIN:  Keep regular study habits and do not cram for this test.  It covers more school work than can be learned in a few extra hours.

RELAX:  Students who are calm and sure of themselves do better.

TEST DAY TIP:  Skip a question and move on if you do not know the answer.  You can always come back to it later.  Check your answers carefully.  Make sure that the number of your answer corresponds with the number on the test.
